In 1998, the Alpha Phi Chapter House at Iowa State University closed. All debts were paid, leaving approximately $250,000. Sue Henderson managed (through tax tribulation, legal wrangling, untold hours of researching and repairing an accounting nightmare) to responsibly grow this principle over the past seven years. A stipend was given to Mom Haug in December 2001, as a retirement benefits for her many devoted years of service. We will be forever grateful to both Sue and Mom for their hours of devotion. In 2004 the foundation began awarding the interest earned from the principle in scholarships. Mary Ann (Tharp) Hendrickson and her committee did an excellent job developing the application, criteria and scoring method for these awards. It was a long time in coming; but, we finally achieved our goal. Each year interest from our foundation will be awarded in scholarship money to Zeta Deltas and their descendants. Your foundation is a non-profit foundation. The principal from the sale of our chapter house has been preserved. If the Greek atmosphere on Iowa State’s campus changes and a new invitation for colonization is bid to Alpha Phi we will have money to start our chapter up again on campus. This achievement would never have been possible without the help of Jo Anne (Oxley) Draper. Jo Anne served as president of the House Corporation Board and the Zeta Delta Alpha Phi Foundation from May 1998 through 2003. Without her leadership we would not have the Foundation. Many others have helped along the way and your contributions large or small are greatly appreciated. |
